Training Mode

I had a great week in my training. Even on my two evening market days -- Tuesday and Thursday -- I got up, went to the gym and did my workout. Now, I was able to do this because Cole was on Spring Break and thus did not need his mother to encourage him to get up, get moving, get breakfast and get out of the house but this is something he needs to work on so maybe this is a good thing all the way around.

My walk last Sunday was amazing. The ginormous block around our house is 2.8 miles and almost completely sidewalk. Only in the neighborhood itself is there no sidewalks and that is okay. I am grateful to Sandy Springs for taking on the project to sidewalk so many of our main arteries. It took me right at an hour and while I only carried one water bottle in my little backpack, I wished for 2. I stopped midway and really stretched for about 10 minutes and I am sure that my upended posterior on Glenridge was a less than lovely sight but I really experienced no pain later that evening or on Monday morning.
I am continuing to increase the amount of actual running I do on my treadmill -- this week, ran 5-6 minutes each day with spacing in between during my initial 20 minute walk at 3.4 pace which I think is 17 mile/min pace.

Today, I am going to expand the ginormous, hoping to get in another mile. It is pollen season here in Atlanta with pollen counts in the 8,000!!!! but the weather is cool and breezy and I will just have to suffer. I have church, then Presbyterian Women where I HAVE to finish coordinating the pastor's daughter's wedding tea, and then I am off!

One thing I did not do was work on my abs but I will definitely get to that today, Wednesday and Friday this week. I am posting those days in pencil on my calendar and will 'pink' them in when I do them. This is a trick from one of my favorite on-line trainers, Jonathan. Here is his website. What an encourager he is!

In other fitness news in my life, I hope to have found a trainer for my parents. They met with Llisa on Thursday and will begin working with her on Monday. My parents are both 73, almost 74 and while they have a lovely workout room in their basement, they do much, much better with someone pushing them. They had a great trainer for several years when the boys were little but when she moved to Florida to sell real estate!!! (bad timing if you ask the economic wonks), they did not replace her. Llisa is tough, wiry and slightly younger than they are but in prim-o shape.

So, goals for this week -- increase minutes ran to 7 per 20 minute cycle, add abdominal workouts on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, gym Tuesday AM with the market Tuesday PM.
I will post pictures from my walk this PM. Atlanta is GORGEOUS in April and my section of town is particularly lovely.
