Inspiraton

I turn 50 in 5 months. I am not afraid of 50 per se. What that number means is really how few tomorrows I could have left. And I feel like there is so much I would like to do. Last August, I fell at my Marietta farmer's market and really hurt my left knee. To say that I was impaired is probably too great. But my mobility was really trimmed back. 1 mile walks were painful and getting out of bed the next morning was a sobering experience. In November, my family participated in a church retreat that hiked to the most wonderful eco-Inn, The Len Foote Inn at the foot of the Appalachian Trail. In January, a blog I follow offered a 'star' word. As in follow the star wisemen. Mine was mobility. Two weeks ago, in looking for a new show to watch on Netflix, I stumbled across the National Geographic episode on the Appalachian Trail. While beautifully photographed, there was little information on the actual hiking experience itself. Wednesday, I texted Don while he was on a road trip to ask for a long term date experience. Let's hike the Appalachian Trail in sections together and let's start soon. My precious husband's response, like almost every other time I have said something like this "Sounds great!" Bless him. Today, Easter Sunday, we decided to put in where the trail crosses 17 in Georgia, hike to Hiawassee, grab a taxi to town, stay over night in Holiday Inn Express, then back to the trailhead and hike 13 more miles to Dick's Gap. The plan is to do this adventure Sunday/Monday Memorial Day weekend. That gives me 2 months to really kick my body into shape. Tomorrow -- the map and the plan.
